All You Need to Know About Beard Implants

Beards are a global craze and a statement of masculinity – most men like thick, elegant beards, while some prefer a clean, shaved look. Beard Transplants are the greatest option for guys searching for the latest trends in facial hair. In recent years, beard transplants have grown in popularity.

A doctor will first assess your skin and hair to see whether you are a good candidate, and then you will have to determine if the cost is worth it. As with any medical treatment, there is no assurance that you will be satisfied with the outcomes. Scars from beard transplants are always a possibility.

What is a Beard Implant?

A beard transplant is just the removal of hair from one area of the body and transplanting it to your jawline or wherever you want your beard to grow.

That may appear to be a straightforward operation, but it is far from it. A surgeon can adopt one of two approaches:

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)- This method involves extracting entire follicular units from the donor region one at a time. FUE is less painful, which may explain why it is the more popular treatment.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)- A surgeon uses this method by cutting a tiny strip of tissue from the back of the head and removing the hair follicles from that tissue.

A follicular unit is a tiny collection of numerous hair follicles that emerge through the skin at the same exit site. Both treatments remove 2,000 to 5,000 hair follicle grafts or more from the back of the head, generally at or around the level of the ears, and implant them on the face.

Because hair follicles are taken from the back of your head, healthy hair follicles in this location are essential.

This is one of the last parts of the head to become bald, so even if you're starting to lose hair on top, you're still likely to have good growth on the back of your head.

Your transplant surgeon will check your scalp to see if you have enough follicular units to implant. If there do not appear to be enough hair follicles to harvest, your doctor may advise you to try another treatment.
